Last year, we launched Roads Management Insights (RMI) to empower public sector road managers with the deep network intelligence needed to optimize civic infrastructure. Today at Cloud Next, we’re taking that mission of safety, efficiency, and reliability a step further. As part of Google Earth AI, we’re introducing a suite of powerful new RMI capabilities for our existing users and opening the product to the private sector, connecting the agencies that maintain the roads with the commercial fleets that drive on them.
Introducing Powerful New Datasets
As part of this expansion, we will be bringing two powerful new data layers to the RMI portfolio, available in Preview in the coming weeks:
Disruptions
Timely information about road disruptions to help understand the root causes of traffic slowdowns.
Early Signal Detection: Obtain early signals about potential disruptions—such as crashes, objects on roads, and stalled vehicles—before they impact the broader network.
Infrastructure Awareness: Identify road closures in real time to maintain an accurate operating picture.
Vehicle Counts
Understanding traffic volume to drive evidence-based infrastructure investment, safety improvements, and congestion management.
Evaluate Capital Projects: Vehicle counts provide accurate traffic estimates required to evaluate the necessity and impact of new roads, bridges, and major maintenance projects.
Justify Budgeting Decisions: Replace guesswork with objective volume data to guide infrastructure planning, prioritize grant applications, and justify capital expenditures.
Targeted Safety Improvements: Correlate traffic volume with historical incident data to identify true risk zones and prioritize safety interventions where they will have the highest impact.
Contextual Intelligence for Roadside Assistance
For roadside assistance networks and motor clubs, the shoulder of the highway is one of the most dangerous workplaces in the world. With RMI’s new capabilities, dispatchers can implement safety-aware dispatching. By analyzing live disruptions, human operators in the dispatch center can instantly identify high-risk zones and secondary accident queues, manually routing tow technicians safely around the danger.
Get started with RMI
By combining Google's unparalleled understanding of the physical world with your proprietary data, you can help improve road network safety and efficiency while enabling rapid, scalable deployment.
